Staining and Finishing Cedar Shingles

Product Listings | Info | Previous Page

Western Red Cedar products can be left unfinished since Western Red Cedar is a very durable species, well suited to outdoor applications. They will weather to a natural gray. However, finishing Western Red Cedar Siding and Panels with a quality stain or paint will extend the already long life of your Shingle Siding, while providing a wide range of color choices. Click on links below for detailed information about finishing our Shingles and Panels.

      • Maximum life - A quality oil based finish or paint will maximize the life of your
        Cedar Shingle Siding.
      • Prefinishing - Finishes can be applied after the product is installed but
prefinishing is an efficient and economical approach.
      • Natural Color Variations - Part of the beauty of Western Red Cedar
is its natural color variances. Stains and finishes can either augment or
        subdue these natural characteristics.

Refinishing Red Cedar Shingles
Refinishing of Siding Panels is simple and follows the normal procedure for renewing any wood surface. It must be free of loose matter such as dirt, dust, peeling paint or excessive chalking of the old film. A stiff brush should be used to remove all foreign matter, allowing the new finish to adhere properly. If mildew is present, it must be dealt with promptly.
