Introduction to Porch Balusters (Spindles)

Product Listings | Info (at Porch Guide) | Usage Photos | Previous Page

Balusters are the vertical members used to fill the space below Handrails.
Turned Balusters Frequently referred to as Spindles, Balusters add physical and visual support to your Handrails. Often necessary for safety, Balusters also beautify a porch in a very elegant and traditional manner!
Shop All Balusters
Our Balusters are available in both wood and synthetic materials. Baluster size and/or type is mostly a matter of personal choice. For example, do you want a light and airy balustrade or do you prefer something more substantial?

In the photo at left, our Porch Posts anchor the balustrade (Handrail, Subrail, Turned Balusters, and Sloped-top Bottom Rail.)

Turned Balusters, when properly spaced, are very elegant. Plain Square and Sawn Balusters will create different but still traditional balustrades, as the next two photos illustrate.

"Porch spindles were exactly what we needed to match existing porch rails. Helpful customer service, shipped quickly, and arrived well packed. Price was 1/3 of having the new spindles turned at the local mill."                                                                                                                                       - Maureen R, PA

"I am very well satisfied with the product that I have received. The courteous and professional customer service personnel always take the time to answer my questions."                                                                                     - Orlando L, Washington DC

Plain Square Balusters
Sawn Balusters

The left photo above shows Plain Square Balusters on a front porch. The relatively close Baluster spacing is very pleasing to the eye.

The right photo above features Sawn Balusters installed edge-to-edge. Sawn Balusters can be spaced apart for a slightly different look. You can also mix Sawn and Plain Square Balusters.

For exterior projects it is very important to install your Balusters using Sloped-top Bottom Rail. We can notch the bottoms of your Balusters to perfectly fit this Rail.
Balustrade Panels in Place of Balusters
For an even more unique look, use our Balustrade Panels, as shown in the last photo.

There are a number of considerations when choosing and installing the right Balusters for your porch. At our Baluster Info page you will find information on height and size considerations and much more.
