You can alternate Sawn Balusters and Plain Square Balusters (or homemade pickets, as shown here).
Notice also the use of a Drop piece between Fretwork Spandrels. This allows two Spandrels where one would otherwise be used, thereby increasing the amount of Fretwork (scrollwork). This can also avoid the need for Motor Freight shipping of longer Spandrels.
