For comparison, here's Porch Example #2 again, but without a Beam, and thus no place for Repeating Cornice Brackets. The entire porch appears less balanced. In real life this will be even more noticeable as the Flying Circle Brackets will tend to be lost in the shadow of the eave. We still have Post Face Brackets and they will go a long way to give this porch a three dimensional feel.
As we pointed out earlier, you should try to find older homes in your
area that have Post Face and Repeating Cornice Brackets so you can study their impact. Please also study our next example to see how you can have a Beam even when you don't!
