Here's another house with relatively low front eave.
Before adding new porch
Our first 'low existing eave' example illustrated three options for maintaining adequate porch eave height:
1. Shed-style (single plane) roof attached directly to the existing house eave. The existing main eave height limits the your possibilities with this solution. See first house example, Option #1.
2. Start porch roof on the main roof to allow new porch eave to maintain same height as original house eave. See first house example, Option #2.
3. Construct a new roof ridge perpendicular to the main roof. With this option you can maintain a new porch eave that's the same height as the original house eave. It also permits whatever depth porch you wish. See first house example, Option #3.
This owner went with a variation of Option #1. They extended the existing eave just enough to create a walkway in front of the house that visually doubles as a front porch without lowering the front eave of the porch too much. A gazebo at the end of the new walkway/porch provides very ample sitting space and an opportunity to catch breezes coming from the rear of the house. It also helps balance against the mass of the protruding garage. The solution is both decorative and functional!

The owners wrote: "Enclosed are the before and after photos of our house, remodeled with the design I found in the Porch Design book on page 28 as well as millwork from your company. I wanted to give some character to our plain rambler style home built in 1978. The design worked great as did the millwork. It has really given our house a whole new look.
"We have had many neighbors and passersby stop and compliment, wanting to know where I found such a lovely design and quality millwork. Last year we remodeled inside using many of your products. I have been very pleased with all the millwork and also service from Vintage. Thank you for making these quality products available."
