A new porch now distinguishes this home from others on this street. The second-story, overhanging 'garrison' effect has been absorbed into the porch roof. By starting the new roof just below the upper windows, very adequate roof slope has been achieved.

Owner has wisely incorporated a beam above the Porch Posts. This not only offers a more traditional appearance, but also brings the Spandrels and Brackets into better view, as opposed to them being hidden in the shadow of the eave. This beam will accommodate the addition of Cornice Brackets and Post Face Brackets if a more three dimensional effect is later wanted.

Note that Handrails at the steps end lower on the Porch Posts than the main horizontal Handrails. This is the traditional way to maintain a comfortable Handrail height at the steps.
