The rings on turned items can be
painted in a secondary trim color ...
... and here's a trick that makes it very easy!
Rather than time-consuming taping, it's possible to use a simple "spinning" technique. The idea is to mount the item to be ring painted in such a fashion as to allow the item to slowly turn while merely holding a brush against the area to be painted! By using a brush stand, it's easy to be very precise, while working quickly.
This is, of course, the same principle under which the item was
originally turned, only you'll be using a paintbrush rather than a
cutting knife. This drawing shows our Spinners and Brush Stand in use. A square of wood, with nail protruding, was nailed to each end of the Post. This nail was then set into a notch in the Spinners.
The fact that the item being painted is turning, while the brush is held stationary in its stand makes all the difference! Before you know it, you’ll have expert looking rings on all of your turned items.
